Rain or Shine will be bringing in a new import in a bid to turn its fortunes around in the ongoing Governors’ Cup of the Philippine Basketball Association.
Elasto Painters announced that Greg Smith II will be coming over to replace Michael Qualls, who failed to lead them to a victory in their first four outings.
Smith, a well-traveled 32-year-old forward, played college ball for Colorado State and had stints in countries like Mexico, France, Argentina, Brazil and Latvia.
His latest assignment was with Caen in the French League in which he posted averages of 7.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
He also saw action for Correcaminos in Mexico where he averaged 14.31 points and 5.08 rebounds per outing.
In a previous interview, Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao bared that there’s nothing wrong with the skills of Qualls, who played for NorthPort in the 2019 edition of the Governors’ Cup.
Qualls, however, have failed to get his teammates involved that sent them to four straight setbacks in the early stretch of the season-ending conference.
“I have no question about Qualls’ ability to play. He provides the energy, plays with a lot of intensity and producing the points,” Guiao said.
“But getting his teammates involved and making them more effective are the issues that we need to address.”
Smith is set to arrive on Thursday and will see action against Blackwater on Sunday.
