GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The local government here is gearing up for the 34th Kalilangan Festival and its 84th Founding Anniversary this month at the GenSan Oval Plaza.
In a recent presentation at the Sangguniang Panlungsod,
Al-Nezzar Ali, the artistic director for this year’s festival disclosed that on 14 February, a soft-opening activity will be held at the GenSan Oval Plaza while the formal opening will be on 23 February.
The dual celebrations aim to commemorate the arrival of the founder of the city, General Paulino Santos some 84 years back and the close relationships of locals with the new migrants from Luzon and the Visayas brought along by Santos.
Organizers also lined up activities along with the theme “Living the Cultural Dream” such as Sayaw Pinoy — a lowland folk dance competition and Pasigarbo 2023 that highlights nightly music and performances to captivate the love for music of audiences. A Fireworks Display is also expected during the opening and closing ceremonies.
