The music video for her latest heartbreaker, “Ikaw at Sila,” reaffirms OPM singer Moira de la Torre as the country’s premier hugot hitmaker.
The lead track from De la Torre’s new album, also titled “Ikaw at Sila,” features updated melodies and lyrics of her previous singles “Ikaw at Ako” and “Tadhana,” which she co-wrote with ex-husband Jason Hernandez.
In May 2022, Dela Torre and Hernandez announced their breakup, with Hernandez admitting he had been unfaithful.
That painful episode is front and center in Dela Torre’s new musical musings. While “Tagpuan” celebrates finding the right person and “Ikaw at Ako” celebrates a lifetime of commitment, “Ikaw at Sila” bemoans bonds that have been severed and a heart that has been deceived.
The accompanying music video starts with a gloomy wedding vow that brings back memories and ultimately serves as a reminder of how cruel love can be. Jear Velasquez and Shaira Luna’s shots offer a dramatic portrayal of love lost and the resulting feeling of nothingness.
Once again, the most streamed Filipina on Spotify has taken to music to chronicle her harrowing and gut-wrenching journey through love. And once again, no doubt the fans will be there to listen, sigh, and swoon along with her.
