Senator Christopher “Bong” Go conducted an inspection of the construction of a two-story public market in Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental on Thursday, 9 February, where he committed to continue promoting public infrastructure development in the countryside.
The construction of the public market was funded through the support of Go as vice chair of the Senate committee on Finance and is expected to be completed in April this year.
Go vowed to prioritize the welfare of poor Filipinos when pushing for measures in the Senate as a legislator.
The senator mentioned how the country’s healthcare system struggled during the global health crisis. He then emphasized the importance of improving access to public healthcare services in order to guarantee that more poor Filipinos receive the medical treatment they require.
It is for this reason that the senator is advocating for the establishment of Super Health Centers.
Super Health Centers offer health services including database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit.
Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done.
Vaccination sites
The senator is also suggesting that these Super Health Centers be used as satellite vaccination sites for those Filipinos who live far from the urban centers.
Go on Friday disclosed that 38 super health centers are to be established in the Province of Cebu.
He added that the local government units might enhance or expand the services that the facility would be offering to its constituents.
Go further explained that the facility is a medium-type health center that could cater to dialysis, dental, vaccination, and other health services.
The national government has targetted to build 307 super health centers in 2022 and 322 super health centers this year in remote areas in the country.
Go was in Cebu to attend the fifth anniversary celebration of Malasakit Center which started in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City and led the groundbreaking of the super health center in Talisay City.
The senator likewise witnessed the groundbreaking of the Super Health Center and assisted indigents in San Carlos City and proceeded to Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental where he personally joined in the celebration of the 40th Kali-Kalihan Festival Friday.
The Kali-Kalihan Festival is celebrated every February in Don Salvador Benedicto. It is a harvest festival that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the town and features street dancing parades with costumes made from local natural materials, and performances of arnis routines, one of the country’s oldest martial arts.
