Felip embraces life’s complexities in debut EP

SB19’s all-around performer Felip, dropped his debut extended play album, COM•PLEX, through Warner Music Philippines on 3 February.

P-pop soloist Felip, also known as SB19’s Ken, grew bold and brave as he proved his artistic progress and strove to encourage fans to embrace life’s complexities and chase their own passions.

The resident rapper-singer gave listeners a taste as he kicked off with “Rocksta,” a hard-hitting hip-hop song that featured his deep vocals and Japanese instrumental influences. It served as a perfect prologue for the EP.

“SUPERIORITY,” which was influenced by the self-improvement-focused personality of the character Daiki Aomine from the anime Kuroko no Basket in Japan. His favorite track on the EP is “MicTest,” a Cebuano hype-me-up song with American Jersey Club music roots that packs a powerful punch of inspiration and inspiring zeal.

The artist focuses on the lows that everyone encounters in “DRINKSMOKE,” which frequently prompt people to turn to vices for companionship.

The same idea is conveyed in the melancholic song “CRIMINAL,” in which two personas explore the complexities of life. A soothing and steady R&B instrumental complements Felip’s comment on accepting one’s self and flaws on a path paved by self-awareness.

Another bass and snare-heavy hip-hop tune, “STRAYDOGS,” rounds up COM•PLEX with a message to A’TIN (name of SB19’s fandom) that strongly emphasizes not to allow other people’s negativity affect you.

The six-track EP, which mixes hip-hop with R&B and trap music, puts listeners inside an artist’s thoughts and away from the stage’s glaring lights.

Felip John Suson is known as Ken of the P-pop group SB19. The globally recognized act went on a world tour last year.
