Around 300 families became homeless when a fire gutted around 100 houses in Mandaluyong City early Sunday.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire broke out at a house along Block 32 Extension in Barangay Addition Hills at 6 a.m. and quickly spread to other houses that were mostly made of light materials and were close to each other.
It took firefighters three and a half hours to contain the blaze as firemen were hindered by narrow streets. The fire was put out at around 9:30 a.m.
No one was hurt in the disaster and the victims were temporarily sheltered at the nearby barangay basketball covered court.
Initial investigation by arson probers indicated that the fire may have been sparked by an unattended stove.
The BFP estimated the damage at P8 million.
