The body of an old woman from Quezon City missing since 14 January was found beside a highway in Tanay, Rizal over the weekend, according to police.
Quezon City Police District Director P/Brig. Gen. Nicolas D. Torre III identified the victim as Edilberta Gomez, 79, a resident of Barangay Pinyahan.
Torre said Gomez’s brother-in-law, Paquito Gonzalez, reported to the Kamuning Police Station that his sister-in-law was missing since 14 January.
Investigators learned that the victim left their house at 5:30 a.m. on 14 January. She boarded a taxi cab to fetch a relative in Mayon Street in Quezon City and go to Manaoag Church in Pangasinan.
Since then, the victim failed to return home, prompting Gonzales to seek police help.
When a concerned citizen reported finding a woman’s body beside the Marilaque Highway in Barangay Cayumbay, Tanay, Rizal, operatives of the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit went to the area to see the body. The victim’s nephew, Fernando Gonzalez, positively identified the body as belonging to his aunt.
Torre said a follow-up investigation is being conducted to determine if there is foul play in the woman’s death.
