Phl gymnasts make waves abroad

Filipino gymnasts Breana Labadan and Aleah Finnegan have been making strides in their respective competitions overseas.

Labadan pocketed a silver medal for ribbon finals and a bronze medal for clubs finals in the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament-Gracia Fair Cup in Budapest, Hungary last 10 February.

The 17-year-old was the first Filipino to participate in the 39th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria last September and is also slated to compete in May at the 14th RG Senior Asian Championships.

Meanwhile, Filipino-American artistic gymnast Aleah Finnegan wowed the crowd in the United States after hitting a perfect score of 10 in the women’s vault in the 2023 SEC Gymnastics in Auburn, Alabama over the weekend.

Finnegan, who performed an Omelianchik in her perfect score, also got 9.875 points on the bars and 9.950 points on the beam despite LSU losing the all-around team tournament to Auburn, 197.750-197.500.

Despite both women’s artistic and rhythmic gymnastics being a no-show for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia this May, Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion is looking forward to the ladies’ performances in the Hangzhou Asian Games from 23 September to 8 October.
