Prankster lands in jail over bomb joke

A 31-year-old man has been jailed after making a bomb joke at a Light Rail Transit 1 train station in Manila.

Leonard Hernandez y Gamboa of Barangay Rivera, San Juan City was detained at the Manila Police District-Police Station 5 on Saturday after his joke caused panic among passengers at the LRT 1 station in Pedro Gil Street, Ermita, Manila.

The train station’s security guard, Edison Ilac, 43, said Gamboa shouted, “May bomba, may bomba (There’s a bomb, there’s a bomb)” upon entering the train station at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday.

The shouts alarmed passengers and a panic ensued in the station’s waiting platform.

Ilac ran after Gamboa who was eventually captured by police responding to the incident.

As he was being handcuffed, Gamboa told the officers, “I was just making a prank, sir.”

The prankster will be charged with violating the “Anti-Bomb Joke Law’ before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
