Remulla’s son takes oath as congressman

Cavite Rep. Crispin Diego “Ping” Remulla, who succeeded his father, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla, took his oath as a new member of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The younger Remulla’s presence in the House follows his winning in a special election contest on Saturday to fill the vacancy left by his father when he assumed the post of Justice chief.

Speaker Martin Romualdez administered his oath.

Ping defeated three other candidates, all of whom ran as independents.

He earned 98,474 votes in the special elections, while his closest challenger, former Trece Martires City Mayor Melencio de Sagun Jr., received 46,530 votes.

His two other rivals, Lito Aguinaldo and Mike Santos settled for 1,610 and 1,068 votes, respectively.
