DJ Patty bests pool legends ‘Bata’, Django

Masters Poker Club continues to up the anté in its advocacy to elevate poker not only as a highly-intelligent form of recreation but as a legitimate sport and profitable career in its recently-concluded G’s Game celebrity invitational game that streamed for free on the official Facebook pages of Masters Poker and its media partner DailyTribune.

With thousands of live online viewers consisting of diehard poker aficionados, the invitational featured Pinoy pool champs Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante; event specialist Jamie Laciste; journalist Manny Angeles; and DJ Patty Tiu competing against each other in a five-hour mental battle of strategy and bluffs that took exhilarating twists and turns with Tiu emerging as the event’s big winner.

Highlights of the trending celebrity poker match include Tiu opening the game by taking a hit to her stack, calling Gio Palacios, Masters Poker Club marketing director who was also the host of the event. He went down with an Ace versus a full house.

The game progressed with Tiu being more selective in picking her spots when investing her chips as she displayed a balanced overall game by showing a combination of well-crafted bluffs and made hands.

Bustamante on the other hand, had better nights as he kept running into better hands when he was dealt with strong hands. While having a good start, things slowed down for Bustamante as the game went on. Bustamante’s saving grace was his good display of discipline which led him to take home a decent profit.

Angeles, who had a rocky start, recovered later in the game by winning a three-way pot versus Palacios and Laciste — putting the Daily Tribune Associate Editor and columnist in second place in terms of profit for the night.

The club’s G’s Game celebrity invitational series happens once a month and it is one of the most highly-anticipated sporting events on the net today, attracting countless viewers from the country’s rapidly growing poker community.

Masters Poker is gearing up for its next celebrity invitational as it prepares for the upcoming grand opening of the club’s newest branch in Biñan, Laguna which will be fully operational this summer.
