Sketches & Stitches: Cutting edge meets classic in charity fashion gala

Anticipation was high as the light dimmed and music filled the air, Ryan Chris, a designer for 12 years now, unveiled “Sketches & Stitches,” a childhood dream that fused his love of design with his heart for good.

The 37-year-old fashion designer hosted a gala night and charity fashion show on 4 March at the Diamond Hotel Philippines to mark his 12th year in the fashion industry.

The runway came to life with a stunning display of colors, fabrics, technical skill, and incredible creativity as Chris presented his latest collection to the audience, following Joyce Peñas Pilarky’s newest collection that opened the show.

Models sauntered down the runway clad in the designer’s vast collection of suits that went from timeless to trendy, edgy to sophisticated. The bridal couture leaned more toward the classic city bride vibe.

Each piece seemed more eye-catching than the last. The models, adorned in Chris’ creations, glided down the runway, showcasing the unique details of almost a hundred ensembles. It was a true celebration of art and fashion.

Night of style and generosity
The event’s proceeds will benefit two charities close to Chris’ heart — the MBrace Project, a not-for-profit organization that helps children with learning handicaps, cancer, and other chronic illnesses; and the Indigenous People’s Student Organization from the President Ramon Magsaysay State University.

Chris believes all kids should have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. He also supports the cause of indigenous students pursuing higher education, empowering them to make a positive impact in their communities.

The MBrace project was made possible through a personal initiative to help children with disabilities in the time of Covid-19 and natural disasters.
