PCSO urges: Probe Southern Luzon jueteng

Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office general manager Melquiades Robles is urging the Department of the Interior and Local Government to look into the spread of jueteng like illegal numbers games in some barangays in Southern Luzon.

Robles — who is also the PCSO vice chairperson of the board — said he will bring to the attention of the DILG the proliferation of a jueteng-like illegal gambling game dubbed Barangay Lucky Bingo said to be operated by a network of unscrupulous barangay officials in the provinces of Batangas and Occidental Mindoro.

He added they have already gathered evidence about the involvement of erring barangay officials in the operation of the illegal games in the two provinces.

“There are video evidence,” Robles said, adding that it will be in the hands of the DILG to go after the barangay officials, particularly barangay chairmen, who not only condoned but were actual operators of the illegal gambling game.

The PCSO earlier issued an advisory on the proliferating purported fund-raising gambling game in Batangas and Occidental Mindoro.

It added that it has issued no authority for the Barangay Lucky Bingo games to operate in the said area. As the state charity agency with the mandate to operate the nationwide lotto games, only the PCSO can allow such lottery games to operate in the country.
