Gilas player Vosotros denies bribing accusation

Gilas 3×3 guard Almond Vosotros has no clue where the idea of him getting bribed by Singaporean Koa Wei Quan came from.

During the 32nd SEA Games send-off ceremony at the PICC Reception Hall last Monday, the TNT cager said he doesn’t know who Koa is and didn’t even pay attention to the allegation that was published by Singapore’s The Strait Times.

The former La Salle cager was accused of being offered a total of US$3,700 back in 2018 to manipulate matches during his stint in Thailand.

“When I read the article, I didn’t look too deep into it,” Vosotros said. “I never got to work up about it because I didn’t even do it in the first place. I don’t even know who he (Koa) is.”

Koa has been involved in numerous match-fixing cases in the PBA back in 2018, most notably offering Magnolia’s Ian Sangalang US$5,000 to lose Game 5 of the PBA Philippine Cup. Sangalang has since mulled over suing Koa for the accusation.

Vosotros admitted he was getting text messages during his stint in Thailand but he didn’t entertain them.

“(On) my second trip in Thailand, someone was texting me and trying to talk to me during games but I didn’t notice them because I was focused on the game,” Vosotros said, adding he will also go and attempt to file a case against Koa. “To clear my name, I’ll do what I need to do.”
