DoJ urged to resolve Degamo murder raps

The counsel of Pamplona town Mayor Janice Degamo, lawyer Levi Baligod, has requested the Department of Justice to resolve the charges filed against four suspects in the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

“I filed a motion to the panel to resolve the case. And within the next few weeks, the resolution of the panel will be released,” Baligod said.

This after suspects Joric Garido Labrador, Joven Calibjo Javier, Benjie Rodriguez and Osmundo Rojas Rivero informed the panel of prosecutors they were waiving their right to file counter-affidavits.

The four suspects had surrendered, while their six accomplices were captured, bringing the total number of suspects to 10.

Government prosecutors indicted the six suspects before regular courts. This after probable cause was established against them during inquest proceedings.

The six suspects will be charged with nine counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Degamo and eight other persons on 4 March.

The six will also face 13 counts of frustrated murder and three counts of attempted murder.
