Alden Richards talks skin and relationships

Alden Richards recently signed a contract with Brilliant Skin Essentials as the beauty and cosmetics company’s newest endorser.

Richards, at the contract signing event recently held at The Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan in Quezon City last 25 April, emphasized how important relationships are to him, whether personal or business.

“In any relationship naman, trust ‘yung basic foundation. In any relationship ‘yun. When you have that with a partner, with any partner, maybe in a business or in a relationship, or kahit ano pa man ‘yun, dun kasi nag-uugat lahat eh (whatever that is, that’s where it starts). So if you have a really good relationship with your partners, sunod-sunod na ‘yun (it follows naturally). It’s like a domino effect,” Richards said.

“You share the same vision, you want to make the project that you’re doing to be great. Isa sa mga iniingatan ko rin talaga sa mga brands na nagtitiwala sa akin (One of the things I really take care of with the brands that trust in me) is really the relationship, more than anything — more than the money, more than the contracts.”

“I have friends na I used to endorse their products before. Mga kaibigan ko pa rin sila ngayon (I have friends whose products I used to endorse, and they’re still my friends now). You need relationships like that. I think ‘yun din dapat ang iniisip ng endorsers like me, na, at the end of the day… we are just commodities. After this, after today, pwedeng tomorrow hindi na. Pero ‘yung relationship na naiwan sa mga partners mo, that will last a lifetime. So that’s very important to me.”

Asia’s Multimedia Star, with his flawless, porcelain-looking skin, is an ideal fit for the beauty brand’s newest product, a sunscreen gel cream. With it, Richards could probably inspire Filipino males to also adhere to a skincare regimen.

The actor admitted that he did not really care about skincare before. He was more obsessed with his hair, which he said he probably got from his father. He did not want a single strand to be out of place.

But soon enough, the showbiz heartthrob realized that skincare is just as important, especially now that the summer heat is intense.

Ngayon po kasi iba na ‘yung weather sa paligid natin because of global warming and climate change (Nowadays the weather is different because of global warming and climate change). [Ang sunscreen] hindi na po siya arte sa katawan eh… kailangan mo na talagang gamitin to take care of yourself (Sunscreen is no longer an indulgence but a must to take care of yourself). Kailangan po talaga kahit papaano inaalagaan natin ‘yung katawan natin in terms of putting skincare, even sa mga lalaki ngayon (We need to take care of our bodies in terms of putting skincare, and that goes for men, too).”

Studies have indeed shown that sunscreen helps postpone the effects of aging and sun damage for both males and females and protects the skin from harmful UVA, UVB and IR rays. Like everything else in his swell career, Richards is right on this one.
