Malacañang on Monday reported the rescue of six Filipino victims of human trafficking syndicates in Myanmar after escaping to Thailand.
According to Presidential Communications Office, Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and other officials disclosed that the captors attempted to bring the Filipinos from Myanmar to Thailand by land.
The PCO added that the six Filipinos — four women and two men — eventually escaped from their captors and have arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on 11 May 2023.
“The Office of the Police Attaché in Thailand and the PAOCC worked together to get them out of danger,” the PCO said. “The victims got the legal, physical, and mental help they needed from the Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking and the Philippine Women and Children Protection Center.”
The day after they got to Manila, the victims were introduced to Bersamin, who gave them some money to help them start over.
