Speaker Romualdez nothing to do with her vice presidential bid — VP Sara

Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday said that House Speaker Martin Romualdez had no part in her decision to run as vice president in the 2022 national elections.

She disclosed it was Senator Imee Marcos who convinced her to run for the second highest position in the land after the Marcos camp agreed to the conditions she set.

Vice President Duterte also took a swipe at Cavite Representative Elpidio Barzaga Jr., who came to the defense of Romualdez, saying the House Speaker “never said a bad thing about the Vice President” despite being attacked. Duterte said he was “badly informed”.

Barzaga’s statement may have something to do with Duterte’s pun during her speech at the “Pasidungog,” an event to pay tribute to the Office of the Vice President’s stakeholders, where she deliberately did not mention President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s middle name as she introduced him.

“Hindi ko na babanggitin ang middle initial niya… Apo, alam mo iyan na mahal kita,” Duterte said.
