Ilocos Norte cops strengthen anti-criminality measures

Ilocos Norte — The Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office, led by Police Colonel Julius C. Suriben, said on Friday, 9 June, that Ilocos Norte cops are strengthening the security measures in the province as a proactive campaign against criminality and road accidents.

Border controls in the province are now being manned 24/7 by the Provincial Mobile Force Company which routinely conducts Oplan-Sita. The operation focuses on anti-criminality by conducting checkpoints. Recently, the Laoag City Police Station was able to nab a farmer for illegally possessing a firearm during a checkpoint.

However, Suriben further said that to effectively implement the five focus agendas of Police General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., they should also conduct community engagement while implementing aggressive and honest law enforcement operations.

When conducting checkpoints, Ilocos Norte cops should, likewise, establish rapport with motorists by having a small dialogue with them and providing them assistance when needed. Part of their community relations is to remind motorists of following safety measures while driving and when parking their vehicles.
