Abra declares state of calamity

BAGUIO CITY — The whole province of Abra is now under a state of calamity after getting heavily battered by the recent super typhoon “Egay.”

In the resolution of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Abra, the local legislators stated that many residents were displaced from their homes because of damages from the strong winds and torrential rains. The extreme weather disturbance also caused severe damages to agricultural crops and live stocks.

Infrastructures and government buildings and facilities were also heavily damaged. The Abra Electric Cooperative reported a power outage as many electric posts, wires and facilities were destroyed.

With the declaration of the state of calamity in the province, necessary measures will be undertaken to facilitate the rescue, recovery, relief, rehabilitation and return to productive livelihood of the Abreños.

Meanwhile, on 29 July 2023, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. personally delivered relief supplies and cash assistance to support the victims and affected families at Bangued, Abra.

PBBM also extended cash assistance to various Local Government Units, including the Provincial Governments of Abra, Benguet and Mountain Province, as well as all the municipalities in the province.

With the president were Senator Imee Marcos, and Department of Social Welfare and Development  Secretary Rex Gatchalian.
