At least three persons were killed and four others injured in a head on collision between a pickup and a van in Zone 2-A barangay Mat-I , Claveria, Misamis Oriental Friday afternoon.
Police identified the fatalities as Jorge Castro, driver of the van and his wife and Hadji Ismael Malik, driver of the Nissan Navarra pick up.
Four passengers of the van and pickup were also injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.
Initial investigation showed that at about 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, the pick up and the van were traveling in opposite directions. The van was going to Gingoog city from Cagayan de Oro while the pickup was also traveling from Butuan city to Cagayan de Oro city.
Upon reaching a steep road in Mati — the van reportedly overtook another vehicle occupying the opposite lane and crashed head on the incoming van.
The impact pinned the drivers of the two vehicles who bothdied on the spot.
The wife of the van driver, who was sitting in the front seat, was declared dead on arrival in a hospital in Claveria town.
Two passengers of the van and pickup were also injured in the accident.
