QC dangles tax discounts for early payers

Beginning next year, the Quezon City government will apply updated discounts for payment of real property tax, with individuals paying in full on or before December 31 eligible for a 20 percent discount.

This was after Mayor Joy Belmonte signed Ordinance SP-3179, S-2023, which revised Section 12 (d), Article 7 of the Quezon City Revenue Code.

The ordinance introduced by Majority Leader Doray Delarmente, Councilor Wency Lagumbay, and Councilor Shaira Liban provides a 20 percent discount to those who pay their basic RPT and the additional tax accruing to the Special Education Fund and Barangay Share for the following taxable year on or before 31 December.

Those who pay in full for the current year on or by March 31 will receive a 10 percent discount.

“We are collecting more taxes so that we can give more to our QCitizens who pay their obligations to the local government diligently and on time,” Belmonte said, adding that the local government has one of the lowest RPTs in Metro Manila.

Belmonte stated that her constituents can be confident that their taxes are being spent wisely, citing the Commission on Audit’s third consecutive “unqualified opinion” to the Quezon City government.

“QCitizens have nothing to worry about because their taxes will be used to further strengthen and expand our delivery of social services, build more infrastructure, and implement necessary plans and programs,” she continued.

Taxpayers, according to Belmonte, can settle their liabilities at any of the 16 City Treasurer’s satellite offices and branches located around Quezon City.

“We have established these satellite offices to make it easier and more convenient for QCitizens to settle their taxes,” she explained.
