MV Empress ‘newly-built,’ says owner

The owner of the ill-fated MV Princess Empress on Wednesday stood firm on his earlier statements that the oil tanker was newly built and that it went with proper procedures under Marina’s requirements.

The RDC Reield Marine Services, the owner of the sunken vessel, made the statement two days after new charges were filed by the National Bureau of Investigation against it along with officials from the Philippine Coast Guard and the Maritime Industry Authority.

“We were diligent in adhering to the standard requirements set forth by the Marina,” the statement said.

The owner of the tanker added that the construction of the ship was done well, and all the documents and requirements needed by Marina.

According to the NBI on Monday, it found out that the owner of the ship has been receiving “benefits” from Marina despite its submission of falsified documents.
