IPOPHL renews TAPE’s ‘Eat Bulaga’ trademark

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) renewed the trademark registration of “Eat Bulaga!” and EB in favor of Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE Inc.).

Based on a copy of the certificate released to the media on Saturday, 5 August, the trademark registration was renewed on 14 June 2023 and is effective until 14 June 2033, or for a 10-year term.

The certificate was issued despite the filing of a petition for cancellation of trademark registration by the noontime show’s former hosts, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon, collectively known as “TVJ”.

TAPE’s legal counsel Atty. Maggie Abraham-Garduque shared on Facebook a piece of news about this, and in the comment section, TAPE COO Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos congratulated her for the win.

“Lagot ka na naman sa lolo mo,” Bullet jokingly added.

Meanwhile, in a statement released to the media, Atty. Maggie stressed that “TAPE Inc. will do everything to protect its right of ownership over the trademark EAT BULAGA.”

“Marami kasi ang nagsasabi na since nag expire ang registration ng TAPE, INC. sa EAT BULAGA trademark, free for all na ito. This is not true,” the lady lawyer clarified.

TAPE Inc., which has been the longstanding producer of “Eat Bulaga!”, was the prior registrant of the “Eat Bulaga!” trademark. The issuance of the certificate of renewal merely solidifies its status as the rightful owner of this iconic trademark.
