Championing sustainable art and culture

Filipino tradition, community and craftsmanship were on full display at the recent 2023 ArteFino Festival, which was sponsored by Security Bank.

The winners of the Maker’s Lab: Totally Upcycled Design Challenge and Stilo Modern Filipino Awards were announced during a cocktail reception at Rockwell, Power Plant Mall, Makati City.

The Maker’s Lab Design Challenge called on Filipino designers to apply their creativity, resourcefulness and innovation by repurposing “everyday” items into “extraordinary” objects. Entries were judged on the ability to incorporate this year’s theme: “Heritage meets innovation,” with at least 80 percent of upcycled material used in the entries.

The three winners this year were: Ash and Muff (soft rosaries and plush parols), TAGPI (Pagsibol barong), and CatSua (mosaic sandal).

Other criteria included unique design concept, quality craftsmanship, business accountability and transparency, costing and production and appeal to the retail market.

Security Bank, a long-time partner of ArteFino, sponsored the contest in line with its mission to enrich lives, empower businesses and build communities sustainably.

The bank and ArteFino also handed out the Stilo Modern Filipino Award to Reese Fernandez-Ruiz of R2R as the most promising revolutionary brand, for its innovative approach to and impact in preserving cultural traditions while adopting digital platforms and technology to promote the products.

Security Bank credit cardholders enjoyed free entry to the ArteFino fair when they presented their Security Bank Platinum or World Mastercard cards, and were entitled to 0-percent installment for three to 12 months for a minimum spend of P20,000.
