New PNP generals take oath

Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. on Thursday led the oath-taking of 112 star-rank generals of the Philippine National Police as he also urged them to be good examples of professionalism, discipline and integrity.

The oath-taking was also attended by no less than President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Abalos urged the newly-minted generals to help the PNP in becoming highly credible, effective, and credible police service by being role models who live by their commitment to serve and protect the citizenry.

“Our President and our citizens expect you to improve your work in suppressing criminality, illegal drugs and other crimes. Expect the guidance and support of your DILG as you fulfill your heavy duties and responsibilities,” Abalos said.

Of the 112 new generals, 55 new generals were sworn in on Wednesday, in addition to the 57 who took their oath Tuesday last week.

The second batch of generals comprise one Police Lieutenant General (three star); seven Police Major Generals (two star); and 47 Police Brigadier Generals (one star).

Marcos, on the other hand, stressed that the public expects reforms in the PNP that will make it more capable, more responsive, and corruption-free as he also urged the police force to prioritize dialogue and establish a bond of mutual respect and support with other sectors of society.

“There should be zero tolerance for corruption and human rights abuses,” said Marcos.

The President also vowed to provide the PNP with the latest technologies and trainings to enable it to maintain the peace, stability, and well-being of the public.
