Netizens express discontent over ‘It’s Showtime’ motion denial

Netizens expressed discontent on Friday over the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board’s denial of the Motion for Reconsideration of the noontime variety show It’s Showtime of ABS-CBN against its 12-day suspension.

Out of 30 board members of MTRCB, 27 voted to deny the motion for reconsideration by It’s Showtime retaining its earlier decision to suspend the show for 12 days after its hosts hugged the headlines for reportedly acting inappropriately and indecently in the presence of children in one of its segments.

According to the MTRCB, the hosts’ acts were in violation of Section 3 (c) of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.

“Showtime is really being subjected to a hate drive,” a netizen said on his Facebook post.

In a “Batang Isip” segment of Showtime last 25 July, hosts Vice Ganda and real-life partner Ion Perez were seen eating cake icing off their fingers, which for some viewers was a portrayal of an indecent act.

However, It’s Showtime maintained that there was no violation of pertinent laws and they immediately filed for MR after the MTRCB, headed by Lala Sotto, daughter of Tito Sotto, who is also a host for another noontime show, suspended the variety show for 12 days.

“They were always trying to look for faults,” another netizen posted on Facebook.

It’s Showtime has at least 15 days to appeal to Malacanang the MTRCB’s denial of its motion.

Despite the setback, the show assured its loyal viewers that they could still watch them on their other platforms as the MTRCB’s decision is not yet final and executory. The show also expressed its gratitude for their followers’ unwavering love and support.
