U.S. warns citizens abroad

The United States government on Thursday issued a rare worldwide advisory for Americans to be alert of possible attacks amid anti-US demonstrations in several countries.

The State Department urged Americans to “stay alert in locations frequented by tourists” and to enroll in a program known as STEP, which allows citizens to be located more quickly in case of emergency.

Anti-American demonstrations mostly in Muslim countries have been triggered by the war between Israel and Hamas following the Palestinian militant group’s 7 October attack on Israeli homes that killed 1,400 mostly civilian Jews.

Demonstrators are angry of America’s support for Israel in its ongoing bombing of Hamas targets in Gaza Strip that already killed more than 3,700 Palestinians, mainly civilians, according to figures from the Hamas-run health ministry.
