Man rescued from Sultan Kudarat insurgents

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Soldiers of the 37th Infantry (Conqueror) Battalion rescued a 20-year-old man after he was abducted by members of the New People’s Army between Barangay Limulan and Obial in Kalamansig town, Sultan Kudarat.

37th IB commanding officer Lt. Col. John Paul Baldomar disclosed on Sunday that the NPAs abducted a certain Jonis, a resident of Barangay Limulan, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat on 10 October.

Jonis, who was identified as a member of the Dulangan-Manobo tribe, was allegedly taken by the NPAs between Barangay Limulan and Obial, Kalamansig town and ordered to carry their food while moving around the forested areas of Kalamansig town.

The victim also reported that two other men abducted by the NPAs were with him and they were threatened several times to be killed if they  did not  comply with their command.

As this developed, the military received information from the residents of the community that a group of armed men were seen roaming in their village.

Immediately, Baldomar deployed an elite team of soldiers to check on the report and an encounter between the NPAs  and the soldiers ensued, where the soldiers rescued Jonis.

Baldomar added that they also received information that the NPAs had taken custody of two other men from Barangay Obial.
