PBBM sees politics behind ambushes

Seeing politics behind the recent series of attacks on local government officials, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. yesterday ordered an assessment of election hotspots around the country.

“Actually, if you think of the three cases that came in, iba-iba talaga (they were different). But then they started to become political. Yung dalawa (The first two) of the three, actually baka hindi (may not have been) political. Basta (Anyway). But the other one, this was purely political,” Marcos told reporters in an ambush interview on the sidelines of a Palace event on Monday.

He was referring to the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, which he described as “really terrifying.”

“Again, the killing of Governor Degamo is entirely unacceptable, and it will not stand. This cannot go unpunished,” he said.

He added: “This does not belong in our society. Hindi na pwede yung ganyan kaya’t hindi natin pababayaan (We cannot allow it and we will not let it go),” he added.

Marcos said he had directed Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos, as well as the Philippine National Police, to conduct an assessment and examination of the country’s election hotspots, similar to what is conducted during every election. @tribunephl_tiz
