Malacañang announced yesterday that 21 April, a Friday, shall be a regular holiday in celebration of Eid’l Fitr, or the Festival of Breaking the Fast for Muslims.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued Proclamation 201 “declaring Friday, 21 April 2023, a holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan).”

The proclamation was recommended by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by Muslims three days after the month-long Ramadan fasting. The holiday’s date is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon in the Islamic month of Shawwal, based on the lunar-based Islamic calendar.
