Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake has teased that a John Wick 5 film is in early development.
Drake also confirmed that the franchise will expand into spin-offs, television series and video games.
“What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spin-off that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including John Wick 5 and a television series. The Continental will be airing soon… You can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick,” Drake said.
Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, will be set between the events of John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum and Chapter 4. It will follow Rooney, a female assassin of the Ruska Roma out for revenge against the murder of her family. Reeves is set to reprise his role. The screenplay is written by Shay Hatten and produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski with Brady Fujikawa and Chelsea Kujawa overseeing for Lionsgate. It will be released on 7 June 2024.
The Continental: From the World of John Wick, starring Colin Woodell and Mel Gibson, explores the history of the titular hotel. The three-part series will premiere this September on Peacock.
The franchise’s latest, Chapter 4, hit cinemas on 24 March and earned $363 million globally. The cast includes Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Bill Skarsgard, Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown and Rina Sawayama. It follows Wick uncovering a path to defeating The High Table.
