QC barangay chair suspended

The Quezon City Council on Monday slapped a 30-day suspension on Barangay Pasong Tamo chairman Mae Tagle for firing all 19 members of the village fire brigade upon assuming the position.

Administrative Case 412-22 for violation of Section 60 of RA 7160, Grave Misconduct and Abuse of Authority and Gross Negligence, was heard by the city council’s special investigation committee.

The case stemmed from the complaint of the fire brigade members led by Marcelo Ragundiaz when they were fired by Tagle in July 2022.

Tagle’s 30-day suspension is expected to be served this week by the local representatives of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The case was heard by the SIC which was authorized through a memorandum of agreement it entered with the Office of the Ombudsman.

A day after Tagle fired the members of the Barangay Pasong Tamo Fire Brigade, a fire broke out at Villa Corina, a stone throw away from the barangay headquarters in the village, killing seven residents.
