With no apology from Noli De Castro so far, the backlash continues against the news anchor for his startling remark last 28 July that seemingly dissed newlyweds Arjo Atayde and Maine Mendoza for having pushed through with their nuptials in Baguio while Super Typhoon “Egay” made landfall in other parts of the country.
“Kayo habang kinakasal, kawawa naman yung mga binabagyo,” commented De Castro at the end of the TV Patrol broadcast.
Veteran showbiz scribe and TV host Cristy Fermin is the latest to upbraid De Castro for his comment, reminding the former vice president that Atayde and Mendoza had planned their wedding with no inkling that a typhoon would disrupt their big day and wreak havoc on fellow Filipinos.
“Napakatagal na panahon na po, Kabayan, na inihahanda nina Congressman Arjo Atayde at Maine Mendoza itong kasal nila sa Baguio,” said Fermin. “Sa pag-iipon pa lang po ng principal sponsors, ang tagal na pong preparasyon niyan. Pero hindi po sila ang may hawak ng kalamidad sa mundo, hindi po nila alam na makakasabay pala ng kanilang pagpapakasal itong si Bagyong Egay”
“Anong kinalaman ni Arjo at ni Maine sa bagyo na talagang nanalanta sa norte? Ano naman kinalaman nila dun?,” she demanded.
De Castro’s experience and stature as a newscasting pillar should have made him more careful with his on-air comments, said Fermin.
Dapat kasi lumalagay si Kabayan sa dapat niyang kalagyan. Sa edad niya, diyan na siya tinubuan ng puting buhok sa pagiging komentarista. Bakit ba sa bandang dulo e nagpapapansin pa siya. Naku, Kabayan, lumagay-lagay kayo sa ayos,” fumed Fermin.
