Over P2-B damage logged on Cordillera infra

BAGUIO CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways Cordillera revealed that the damaged incurred by infrastructures and roads and bridges in the Cordillera Region have already reached P2.1 billion following the onslaught of typhoon “Egay.”

DPWH Cordillera regional director Khadaffy Tanggol said that of the total worth, more than P626.4 million of roads in the 12 engineering districts in the region are destroyed.

Two bridges — one in Abra and another one in Mountain Province — with a total worth of P2,350,000 were heavily damaged.

Meanwhile, six flood control infrastructures in Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Kalinga and Mountain Province were listed destroyed. The total worth of damages is P1.8 billion.

Tanggol said that the DPWH need more than P3.4 billion for the rehabilitation of the destroyed roads, bridges and flood controls.

In the latest update of the DPWH Cordillera, parts of 10 national road lines in the region are closed to vehicular traffic because of slides and rock falls.

Three road lines are closed in Apayao, one in Kalinga and four in Mountain Province. National roads leading to Ifugao and Baguio City except Kennon Road are open.
