Over P1-B weed seized

BAGUIO CITY — Personnel of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera were able to haul more than P1 billion worth of marijuana plants in their “Oplan Kaya Pa” anti-illegal weed campaign in Bakun town of Benguet over the weekend.

In the first sweep, members of the Benguet Police Headquarters, the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company and Bakun Municipal Police Station discovered fully grown marijuana plants and marijuana seedlings in eight sites or plantations with an estimated total land area more or less 851 square meters in Sitios Lipay, Caot, Liblibo and Indadangan, in Barangay Kayapa, Bakun.

The 3,420 marijuana plants and 122 marijuana seedlings planted in the sites were worth P688,880.

In Sitio Lipay, there were more or less 150 pieces of marijuana plants planted in an estimated land area of 160 square meters with SDP of P30,000; in Site 2 at Barangay Kayapa, there were more or less 122 pieces of seedlings planted in an estimated one square meter with estimated worth of P4,880.

Over at Site 3 in Sitio Caot, there were more or less 1,200 marijuana planted in an estimated land area of 150 square meters worth P240,000.

During the second sweep, the police discovered 2,480 plants and 1,600 marijuana seedlings planted in an estimated land area of more or less 542 square meters worth P560,000 in 10 plantations in the communal forest in Bakun.

The anti-marijuana sweep was coordinated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera.

All marijuana plants were uprooted, documented and burned on-site except for few samples taken for submission to Regional Field Unit-Cordillera for qualitative test.
