Creamline guns for top spot

Games today:
(Sta. Rosa Sports Complex)
2:30 p.m. — Petro Gazz vs Akari
5:30 p.m. — Creamline vs Cignal

Red-hot Creamline seeks to extend its winning run and grab a piece of the lead when it battles dangerous Cignal in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference today at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.

The grand slam-seeking Cool Smashers hope to add the HD Spikers to their list of victims in their 5:30 p.m. tussle to gain a share of the top spot with idle Chery Tiggo, which remains unbeaten in three outings.

Meanwhile, Petro Gazz and Akari meet in their 2:30 p.m. encounter with their eyes fixed on getting back into the win column.

Petro Gazz import Lindsey Vander Weide, who dropped 28 points in a lost cause against Creamline last Tuesday, will be at the helm as well as MJ Phillips, Jonah Sabete and Myla Pablo, who are all eager to avenge their sorry loss.

The Chargers, on the other hand, are in a three-way logjam with F2 Logistics and PLDT with a 1-2 slate after suffering a painful 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 6-15, loss to Chery Tiggo last Thursday.

With Alyssa Valdez building a case for a fourth Most Valuable Player award and Turkish import Yeliz Basa showcasing her scoring prowess, the Cool Smashers have won their first two games in convincing fashion.

Valdez delivered a triple-double of 14 points, 16 digs and 15 excellent receptions in the Cool Smashers’ 25-19, 16-25, 25-18, 27-25, win over Petro Gazz that served as a rematch of the 2019 Finals of the import-laden conference.

Basa complemented the production of Valdez with a monster 28-point outing.

“I think our win over Petro Gazz will help us do better as a team moving forward. Definitely, it also gave more confidence to Yelo (Basa). Hopefully, we can address our lapses and basic errors,” Valdez, who has been showing renewed energy after recovering from dengue two months ago, said.

Cignal is fresh from licking its wounds from a 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 20-25, defeat from the hands of the Crossovers last week.

The HD Spikers hope to make a repeat of its opening day win in the same venue to get back on the winning track and improve their 1-1 win-loss record they share with the Angels.

American import Tai Bierria and Ces Molina, the only Cignal players in double-digit scoring in their last start, will need more support from skipper Rachel Anne Daquis, Glaudine Trongcoso, Roselyn Doria and Angeli Araneta to pull off an upset over the star-studded Cool Smashers.
