Regine, Christian and Julie Anne all ready for Dubai’s warm welcome
The formidable trio of Regine Velasquez, Christian Bautista and Julie Anne San Jose are all set to make summer in Dubai hotter than usual.
After staging the regional legs of their one-of-a-kind concert, they are again flexing their vocal muscles for the Dubai crowd. And they are just as excited for this particular leg because they are expecting not just the warm weather, but the typical warm welcome of Filipinos abroad.
“The warmth is different, it’s not just the weather. I guess in one word, ‘sabik (eager)’,” muses Christian.
Regine chimes in, explaining how Filipinos, most of whom are overseas Filipino workers, usually receive Filipino artists abroad.
“When you perform outside with the Filipinos, the audience is generally warmer,” she shares. The three agree and think perhaps it is because many of the Filipinos residing in these territories have not been to the Philippines for quite some time.
“That’s why we really do our best to put in Filipino pop songs because it is what they want eh. They don’t want to hear songs of other artists. They would really want you to sing OPM and they really love it,” says Regine.
This is also why they have the “Regine by Request” segment. Seven lucky fans get to have their song requests granted with Regine serenading them onstage together with Christian and Julie Anne.
It will be one big sing-along and mobile phones will surely be up the whole time to record those precious minutes of the trio hitting those high notes, but Regine, Christian and Julie Anne call on the audience to savor the moment.
“Oh, we love it when they sing along. As a performer kasi, you want to be able to perform to the people, not to the cellphone. Because when you’re taking the videos, you don’t enjoy the performance cause you’re trying to see if your shot is OK. As much as possible, we want for them to enjoy the live singing and performance because it really is different,” shares Regine when asked if she minds singing in front of a sea of people holding up their phones.
“A concert is an experience. You just don’t go to a concert and listen. All your senses are working so let it work for you. Enjoy it. When you’re recording it with your cellphone, you’re missing half of it,” she adds.
The past legs saw their take on Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect,” a duet reinterpreted by Christian and Julie. “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang” and “I Can” are also crowd favorites. The latter will have all three singers do their version of the anthemic song.
The successful legs of the “3 Stars, 1 Heart” concert series in Cebu and Dagupan made the Dubai leg possible. A project of the regional group, the Dubai leg is produced by GMA Pinoy TV together with partner carrier OSN. It will be held on June 16 at the Dubai World Trade Center.
Ticket prices are at AED 430 (VIP), AED 350 (Platinum), AED 240 (Gold), and AED 150 (Silver). Gates open at 3 p.m.
