The suspect in the killing of a special assistant prosecutor of the Office of the Ombudsman was shot dead by a policeman yesterday morning inside Camp Karingal in Quezon City.
Killed was Angelo Avenido Jr. when he allegedly tried to grab the service firearm of his guard, Police Officer 2 Ramil Langa, at the second floor of the headquarters of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
The 31-year-old native of General Santos City was the suspect in the fatal stabbing of Atty. Madonna Joy Ednacio-Tanyag last 4 June in Barangay Vasra, Quezon City.
According to the press statement of QCPD director Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr., Avenido was being led by Langa from the “operations” room of the building when the suspect grabbed the policeman’s gun.
A scuffle for the gun ensued, according to Esquivel. “At that instance, the firearm suddenly went off hitting the detainee in the process,” said the QCPD chief.
The incident happened after Avenido was processed for his transfer to the Quezon City Jail pending the resolution of the case against him.
Avenido was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) but was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.
