Malabon hunting cop-killer

The Malabon police yesterday formed a special team to solve the murder of a Manila policeman who was shot four times, including one in the head to make sure he was dead.

Senior Supt. Harry Estela vowed to get into the bottom of the killing of SPO2 Rodolfo Cruz Jr. at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Members of the Scene of the Crime Office headed by Chief Inspector Avelino Adaya found four deformed slugs and seven bullet casings near Cruz’s bloodied body.

His companion, identified as retired SPO1 Elmer Barola, was spared by the lone killer.

When the suspect struck, Cruz and Barola were inside a Toyota Fortunner parked in front of a cockpit arena on Don Basilio Bautista Boulevard in Barangay Dampalit.

The killer was described by witnesses as medium-built, wearing a sando, dark colored short pants, bull cap and a face mask.

He escaped on a motorcycle driven by a waiting cohort.
