Superliga rolls to Ilagan City

ILAGAN CITY — The Philippine Superliga (PSL) spices up the 6th cityhood anniversary celebration of the “Corn Capital of the Philippines” by giving fans and players from all over the province a chance to play against some of their favorite volleyball stars Saturday at the City of Ilagan Community Center here.

The PSL has brought in 21 players from nine teams, led by Invitational Conference finals Most Valuable Player Ara Galang of F2 Logistics, to play a pair of exhibition matches against Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association team and the Ilagan Selection.

Also signed up for the three-set friendlies are Cignal’s Jheck Dionela, Janine Navarro and Shirley Salamagos, Cocolife’s Yvette Tongco, Alex Denice Tan, La Rainne Fabay and Patria Jela Pena, Foton’s Shaya Adorador, Gyselle Sy and Iumi Yongco, F2 Logistics’ Dawn Macandili, Generika-Ayala’s Bang Pineda, Mikaela Lopez, Jamie Lavitoria and Marlyn Llagoso, Petron’s Carmela Tunay and UE-Cherrylume’s Jane Katrina Sta. Maria and Brydie Pastorfide.

Prior to the 4 p.m. gig, Cocolife’s Joshua Ylaya and F2 Logistics’ Hollie Reyes share volleyball tips to MAPE students and teachers, high school and college players from the Ilagan and nearby cities and municipalities.

Part of the league’s off-season program and drum beating for October’s 2018 PSL All-Filipino Conference, Juico said this tour serves as “PSL’s give-back-volleyball your way” project for the volleyball community.

The PSL’s visit, he added is in line with the aim of organizers led by Mayor Evelyn Diaz and former Mayor Jose Mari Diaz of “strengthening their sports promotion and development platform to fight drug addiction and other vices affecting the community, especially the youth.”

“We’re also hoping after this exhibition game, we’ll be able come back here and play an official PSL game,” said Juico.
