The restoration of the Church of the Immaculate Concepcion of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, is now nearing completion.

The National Cultural Treasure was severely damaged by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013. The church has the only known ornamentation using seashells in the country.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the National Museum have been leading the renovation including the intricate shell ornamentation. The newly-restored church is projected to open in September or October. (Photo by Roel Hoang Manipon)
