CEBU CITY — University of the Visayas starts its quest for a rare three-peat when it tackles University of Cebu in Game 1 of their Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. juniors basketball best-of-three finals series at the Cebu Coliseum.

Game time is at 6:45 p.m. right after the battle for third between University of San Jose Recoletos and University of Southern Philippines-Foundation at 5:15 p.m.

This will be the first finals meeting between the Baby Lancers and Junior Webmasters since UC mentored by Reggie Licanda prevailed in 2009.

Since then, the Junior Webmasters never won the title despite advancing to the finals three years ago before losing twice to Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

Now, the hungry Junior Webmasters of coach Jover Samonte will try to end their title drought against the two-time champion Baby Lancers.

But it’s easier said than done.

In their previous game, the Baby Lancers flexed their muscle as they came up with a convincing win over the Magis Eagles.

Bern Laurente and Joshua Yerro will carry the cudgels for the Baby Lancers while Isaac Blanco, son of former professional player Dondon Hontiveros, is tipped to star for the Junior Webmasters.
