NLEX escaped with a 116-110 overtime win over Alaska to snap its three-game losing skein and keep its quarterfinal hopes alive in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup last night at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.
JR Quiñahan sizzled for the Road Warriors, scoring the last seven points to turn a slim 109-110 deficit in the last minute into a huge victory.
The Road Warriors trailed by as many as 10 points, 84-94, in the last six minutes of the fourth period before they closed out the regulation with a massive 15-5 run capped by Aaron Fuller’s inside basket to force an extra time, 99-99.
With this win, NLEX improved to 5-5 for seventh place.
“We just fought hard. We fought back. We showed some character,” said head coach Yeng Guiao.
“For us, it’s an important win. We’ll see. I think we have one foot inside the quarterfinals but we still need to win our last game against Rain o Shine to assure that playoff slot.”
Aaron Fuller paced the Road Warriors with 42 and 22 rebounds while Quinahan finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mike Harris had 35 points and 26 rebounds for Alaska, which failed to secure a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals with a 7-3 record.
