A self-confessed e-sabong (electronic cockfighting) addict was arrested by Quezon City policemen Monday for attempting to carnap a taxi unit in Barangay Doña Josefa.

Technology proved to be the bane for Ariel Laurente after the taxi he tried to steal stalled due to its engine immobilizer feature.

Laurente’s ruse involved claiming his foot was aching and asking the taxi driver to ring the doorbell of a house in the said village where he asked to be taken from Quezon Avenue.

When the taxi driver alighted, the suspect took the wheel of the vehicle and sped off only for the engine to sputter dead when the driver pressed the immobilizer device.

The driver asked assistance from barangay officials who immediately called the Galas police station leading to Laurente’s arrest.

QCPD head Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel lauded officials of Barangay Doña Josefa and his policemen for their prompt action.
