Chris Tiu may have announced playing his last game with Rain or Shine on Saturday, but the recently-retired pro is not discounting a possible return to the team.
Completing his seventh year in the league since he was drafted seventh overall pick in 2012, Tiu hinted at leaving the game early with a retirement ceremony following their 107-101 win over NLEX the other night in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup.

Tiu’s contract with RoS ended this conference. No renewal was announced by management and Tiu.
After scoring a career-high 30 points on top of four rebounds and five assists, the 33-year Tiu joined his fans for photographs, graced the PBA media room for an interview and treated teammates, coaches and management to a big dinner.
Tiu said it’s about time to hang his #17 jersey up.
But he said he is willing to take one more shot if RoS management will deem so.
“We’ll see. My contract’s expiring this November or December, so I have to talk to our bosses Sirs Raymond (Yu) and Terry (Que) and see what they have in mind and make the announcement then maybe,” he said.
I’d rather talk to our team owners first and we’ll take it from there.
“I don’t want to preempt anything. I’d rather talk to our team owners first and we’ll take it from there,” Tiu added. “I’ve got a lot of things going on also outside of basketball and it’s just getting busier. I have personal commitments also. I have some projects of my own.”
“I also have some obligations with my family. My kids are growing up fast. I want to spend a lot of time with them especially in these very important formative years.”
Aside from a respectable PBA career highlighted by an All-Rookie Team citation, a championship and Three-Point Shootout trophy, Tiu will also end his national team stint with grace.
A pioneer Smart Gilas Pilipinas before getting drafted in the PBA in 2012, Tiu donned the national colors anew this year in the Asian Games under coach Yeng Guiao.
