35 schools damaged by magnitude 7.0 earthquake

At least 35 schools in 15 school division offices from Luzon were damaged due to the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit Abra and nearby provinces on Wednesday morning, 27 July, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).

Initial report from the agency’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) said there were 11 damaged schools from Region III (Central Luzon), nine from Region II (Cagayan Valley), eight schools from Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR ), and seven schools from Region I (Ilocos Region) which incurred damages from the recent earthquake.

DRRMS’ report revealed that the initial estimated cost for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the damaged schools is at P228.5 million.

“The Department of Education is one with the nation in praying for the safety and welfare of the Filipino people amidst the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Abra,” DepEd said in a statement.
