It’s time for C-dramas to shine, too

Chinese dramas, or C-dramas, are actively raising the bar in the world of entertainment.

Because of streaming platforms, it won’t take long for viewers to find a highly enjoyable and binge-worthy C-drama.

Here are reasons why C-dramas are worth the emotional investment.

TONG Yao and Lu Si Cheng are enemies-turned-lovers in ‘Falling Into Your Smile.’

Shorter series

C-dramas don’t take up a lot of airing time. Most of its episodes last between 30 and 45 minutes. This is in contrast to Korean dramas which often have 16 to 20 episodes with a runtime of 60 to 90 minutes each. K-dramas typically air two episodes once a week, as opposed to the two episodes per day that many C-dramas do.

Variety of genre

Chinese programs excel in a variety of genres such as historical fiction, period rom-com, politics, sci-fi, action, horror, romance and family drama. However, C-dramas are generally superior in the fantasy and historical or costume styles. The Untamed, Ashes of Love, and Eternal Love are examples. C-dramas frequently place a lot of emphasis on art direction and set design, being meticulous with their sets, makeup and costumes.

Stellar cast

The casting choice in a C-drama is something that viewers anticipate. Yang Yang, Dilraba Dimulat, Yang MI, Ryan Ding, Song Wei Long, Lia Xing, Angela Baby, Steven Zhang and Lin Yu Shen are some of the most well-known actors in C-dramas.

Empowered women

Both modern and historical C-dramas feature plenty of strong, independent female characters. These illustrious women frequently are the focus of the narrative. Consider these titles: Love Is Sweet, Legend of Fu Yao and Falling Into Your Smile.

‘LOVE is Sweet’ is loosely adapted from the novel of the same name.

Strong family ties

Filipinos emphasize relationships and family values just like Chinese do. In timeless tales and fascinating stories, C-dramas frequently feature the importance of family ties including those of grandparents, parents and even extended families like aunts, uncles and cousins.
