‘Eragon’ TV series underway at Disney+

Bestselling author and screenwriter Christopher Paolini confirmed the rumors about the long-awaited new adaptation of Eragon which is now in the works at Disney Plus.

Eragon is the first in Paolini’s four-book high fantasy series The Inheritance Cycle first released in 2002. It has sold over 41 million copies worldwide and is regarded as one of the most influential fantasy books for the last two decades.

Set in the fictional world of Alagaësia, the novels follow the story of a farm boy named Eragon who, in the mountains, discovers an egg that hatches into a dragon that he names Saphira.

“All I can say is thank you,” Paolini tweeted, “Thank you to everyone who has read the books, supported the tweetstorms, and participated in this fandom. None of this would have happened without you Alagaësians.”

When asked about how long he had been hiding the news, Paolini replied, “Large things take time.”

In 2006, the book was adapted into a 20th Century Fox film with the same name, starring Ed Speelers as Eragon, Rachel Weisz as the voice of Saphira, Jeremy Irons as Brom and John Malkovich as Galbatorix.

With a reported budget of $100 million, the movie grossed approximately $250 million worldwide. However, it was met with poor reviews. Fans were disappointed with the film as they began using the hashtag #EragonRemake in 2021 in an attempt to get Disney produce a series version.

Disney+ is also working on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a mythology fantasy series based on the bestselling books of the same name by Rick Riordan.
