Bataan fisherfolk livelihood beefed up

BAGAC, Bataan — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Luzon (BFAR3) has provided payaos to fisherfolk in the province as part of the agency’s thrust to develop the fishing industry in the area.

In coordination with Bataan Provincial Fisheries Office (PFO) Harlyn Recabar-Purzuelo, Municipal Agriculture’s Officer (MAO) Nonato Manalastas said that two fisherfolk associations were given three sets of payaos which can help fisherfolk here catch bigger fish.

A total of 90 fisherfolk were also given fishing gear such as handlines, nets, solar lamps and milkfish fry collection paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, PFO Purzuelo also distributed two payaos to two fishing associations in the town of Morong given by the BFAR3.

This is also part of the agency’s thrust to develop capture fisheries production.

The two associations were elated over the assistance, expressing their gratitude to the agency and the PFO.

MAO Solidad Monsaled, meantime, said that Morong is part of the 11 coastal municipalities that make up the Bataan Peninsula. She added that the town’s main source of income is the fishing industry.
